Pus-filled bumps and redness all over your face is an indication of rosacea. It is an extremely common skin disorder that mostly affects people who are above the age of 30. Rosacea worsens with time if left untreated. It is often mistaken for acne or eczema, or some other skin allergy.

CAUSES-

The exact cause of rosacea is not known. It has been established that it is not caused by any kind of bacterial infection. Normally, genetics, or people with fair skin, or who blush often are mostly affected with rosacea.

There are certain factors that worsen rosacea. These factors include:

  1. Alcohol
  2. Exercise
  3. Wind and sun exposure
  4. Hot weather
  5. Spicy food
  6. Stress
  7. Hot Baths

SYMPTOMS-

If you have rosacea, you might have the following symptoms—

  1. A red, flushed face with dry, sensitive skin that may sting or burn.
  2. Small bumps and acne or pimple-like breakouts.
  3. Skin that becomes thicker and coarser, with an uneven texture.
  4. Dry, irritated and red eyes.

TREATMENT-

Rosacea is treated by focusing on the management of the symptom and signs. Your doctor will prescribe a combination of oral medications and ointments.

  1. External Application: Brimonidine, metronidazole and azelaic acid are commonly prescribed to be applied to the skin.
  2. Oral Medication: Antibiotics are sometimes prescribed to reduce the inflammations
  3. Isotretinoin: This is a powerful drug that is taken when other treatments do not work. It is an oral acne drug.
  4. Some alternative therapies: Laser therapy and face massages are options that might lessen the inflammations.
