A woman’s sexual desire tends to fluctuate over her lifetime. Factors such as pregnancy, illness or menopause may lead to highs and lows in her sexual desire. Certain medications such as anti-depressants and anti-seizure medications may cause a lack of libido in women.

The symptoms a woman typically exhibits if she has low libido are:

  1. Lack of sexual fantasies
  2. Lack of interest in sexual activities, including masturbation
  3. Lack of interest in the opposite sex

There are many causes that may lead to low libido in women:

  1. Medical Causes: Various disorders such as arthritis, cancer, hypertension and diabetes may lead to low libido.
  2. Lifestyle Habits: Various habits such as alcohol consumption and smoking can act as dampeners on your libido.
  3. Fatigue: Too much fatigue over a period of time can contribute to low libido.
  4. Menopause: During menopause, estrogen levels tend to drop, resulting in reduced desire for sex. The cause may be due to dryness in the vagina and pain during sex.
  5. Hormonal Changes During Pregnancy: Hormonal changes during pregnancy may mar your libido; apart from hormonal changes, fatigue may also set in, worsening the cause.
  6. Sexual Problems: Certain sexual problems such as an inability to orgasm, among others, can cause low libido in women.
  7. Psychological Problems: Various psychological problems such as low self-esteem, work related stress and depression can lead to complications in libido.

Note: Exercising regularly, abstaining from smoking and alcohol consumption and self-regulating your stress levels can go a long way in keeping this problem at bay.
