Depression is often characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and/or loss of interest in whatever you wish to do. Depression is medically termed as clinical depression or major depressive disorder. Your feelings, thoughts and behaviors will all be affected and this will most probably lead to a variety of both physical and emotional problems. You will also not feel like doing your usual daily activities and often, suicidal thoughts may creep in as well. Even though it cannot be cured quickly, depression does get better with long-term counseling and medications.

1. Try to Control Stress:

This will help build up your resilience. Lesser stress levels are directly associated with general and overall happiness and well-being.

2. Consume Healthy Fats:

Flaxseeds, walnuts, trout, salmon and sardines all contain omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are very good at preventing the symptoms of depression.

3. Exercise:

It has been proved in various studies that people who exercise for just 15 minutes have both their cortisol levels as well as their symptoms of depression reduced.

4. Control Blood Sugar Levels:

Research has shown that your blood sugar levels have a direct correlation with depression. Exercising, a healthy diet and less stress levels can lower your blood pressure and thus reduce your chances of taking a setback with depression.

5. Sleep:

Your circadian rhythm is a mechanism in your body which is responsible for sleeping when it is dark. It is responsible for sleeping at night and staying awake in the day. When you are not obeying your body’s circadian rhythm, your mood will worsen and this may lead to depression.
