Thyroid diseases pertain to diseases of the thyroid gland, which are sizeable, ductless glands present at the back of the neck. These glands secrete hormones which regulate the rate of metabolism, thus subsequently affecting the rate of growth and development in a person. The prevalence of thyroid diseases usually becomes higher with increasing age but more so in patients who suffer from diabetes. This is so because patients who suffer from organ-specific autoimmune disorders are more likely to develop other autoimmune diseases as well.
Thyroid disorders, more often than not, tend to aggravate the symptoms of diabetes and increase the possibility of certain complications.
Diabetes, a condition marked by high blood sugar and fluctuating levels of insulin, is adversely affected by thyroid dysfunctions. Some of the common conditions pertaining to the thyroid gland which is caused by diabetes are:
- Hyperthyroidism: It is a commonly associated condition of diabetes. An increased requirement for insulin coupled with degrading glycemic control is typical to this condition. Apparent symptoms include mood swings, rapid weight fluctuations, palpitation and sweating. The condition can affect people of all age groups but is more common amongst women.
- Hypothyroidism: This is the most common thyroid disorder that can be caused due to diabetes. Most commonly diagnosed in women, it is characterized by an underactive thyroid gland. Although, the symptoms of this condition greatly vary with the age and gender of the affected individual, fatigue, weak muscles and constipation are found almost amongst all patients diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism.
Thyroid disorders also tend to cause pregnancy-related complications such as an increased risk of miscarriages, preeclampsia and various other fetal problems.
HOMEOPATHIC TREATMENT FOR HYPOTHYROIDISM
Doses-
There are excellent remedies in homeopathy for the patients suffering from hypothyroidism symptoms. The homeopathic remedies are prepared from a wide range of substances such as the vegetables, herb, mineral, chemicals and animal products in extremely minute. The homeopathic remedy selected will be based on all the symptoms of the patient including physical, mental and emotional states and family history of the patient.
Homeopathic remedies stimulate the body’s own immune system and offer a long lasting cure rather than giving temporary relief.
There are two ways to treat hypothyroidism-
- Supplement body with external thyroid hormone
- Administer medicines that could stimulate the thyroid gland
The conventional method is to supplement the hormone. But the problem here is that the body gets used to it and stops producing its own hormone in desired quantity.
In case of homeopathic treatment, it tries to stimulate the gland to make it produce normal production of hormone.
