Sex is a very important part of a person’s relationship or marriage. It might not be a necessity, but it sure is essential to sustain a happy and healthy relationship with your partner. Many people also have a bad sex life which affects their everyday activities. Sex therapy is very important for such people to regain confidence and their ability to perform in bed.

If a person is suffering from physical or psychological problems related to sex, he/she should take counseling sessions or some other kind of therapy. These procedures are referred to as sex therapy.

History of Sex Therapy:

Sex therapy has existed from a very early age in many cultures like China, Greece, India and Rome. In Greece it had taken the form of aphrodisiacs while in India it is still practiced as tantric yoga. There has always been a taboo about this. The social stigma used to prevent people from seeking sex therapy in earlier years and it still exists in some societies even today! Homosexuality was seen as an abnormal behavior in those days and hence homosexuals did not have proper access to sex therapy. Henry Havelock Ellis, Alfred Kinsey and Dr. Helen Singer Kaplan have played pivotal roles and contributed greatly in sex therapy.

Sex therapy addresses the following problems:

  1. Non-consummation.
  2. Erectile dysfunctional.
  3. Premature ejaculation.
  4. Sex addiction.
  5. Obsession about unwanted sexual fetishes.
  6. Painful sex.
  7. Low libido which makes it difficult to enjoy sex.
  8. Performance anxiety.
