You need to alter your exercise regime and focus on both goals separately. Dividing your exercise plan into phases will be a solution that will help. One way for you to go about this is by dividing your phases based on the season. Winter season is a good time to bulk up your muscles and focus on gaining muscle, as the extra fat on your body will be welcome. In the summer season, you can focus on burning up the excess fat and developing a leaner look.

Eating a proper and healthy diet will also aid you in this process. You need to reduce the amount of dietary fat that enters your system. This adds up in an increase in your body’s rate of metabolism. Having an increased rate of metabolism helps you to gain muscle quicker, and also enables you to lose fat more efficiently. Increase the consumption of vegetables, and decrease the consumption of foods rich in starch as well.

It should not discourage you from visiting the gym, and it should not leave you feeling frustrated or depressed. You need to understand how your body works, set goals for yourself, and then work hard to achieve it. Time and patience will give you the required results that you wish for.
